Bambusa multiplex ‘Fern leaf’
Common name: Fern leaf
This is a great, tropical looking bamboo with tiny leaves. It almost resembles Oregon’s native Sword Fern, the Polystichum munitum. We have been growing it since the mid 1990′s and have never lost them due to freeze, even down to 5° f, but we mulch heavily in the Fall with leaves. It has yellow culms and makes an excellent hedge. It’s hardy to 12° F-15° F, but should be protected from very cold conditions. Ours easily came back from three consecutive nights of 9° F, even many of the culms leafed back out after dropping their leaves. Tends to lose it’s “fern leaf” look when given fertile soil and ample water. Any of the
Bambusa multiplex’s would do well in the southern United States. Any of our Bambusa multiplex would make a nice addition to an interiorscape.
