This is a tropical bamboo with a thick, clumping habit. It is probably the hardiest of all the multiplex clumping bamboo that we grow. Though it is supposed to hardy to 12ºf-15ºf , we’ve seen ours take three nights of 9fº, plus a week of solid freezing and still come back up from the roots with no problem. We do mulch our Multiplex heavily with leaf material in the late Fall. New culms appear late in the Spring. We treat it almost like a perennial here in our garden, along with our Hardy Banana and Gunnera. In the inland valleys of the Pacific Northwest, it usually grows to about 6′-10′, unless given ideal conditions. It makes a great screen or hedge. Any of our Bambusa multiplex would make a nice addition to an interior scape.
Height x Diameter: Ht. 25’x1.5”
Minimum temperature:Hardy to 12ºf-15ºf, although we have seen over night winter temperatures as low as 5ºf. Normal winter damage on all of our Bambusa is “die back” to the ground level. We heavily mulch with organic leaf matter in late Fall. Each year ours come back and grow taller and more full than the previous year. We treat all Bambusa as a perennial here.
