Phyllostachys Aurea ‘Koi’

Common name:  Koi
This type of Golden bamboo is very similar to the species, with the exception that the culm and branches are a golden yellow,   with green striping in the inter nodes.  Like Golden, the nodes are compressed on the lower portion of the culm.  This is a very colorful bamboo, sometimes showing a little variegation in the leaves and picking up a tint of red from the sun, like the Crookstems.  The Koi makes a great screen or hedge due to its low growing limbs and foliage.  Like the Golden, it can be aggressive in hotter parts of the U.S.  In colder areas of the U.S., like other more aggressive bamboos, it’s a little more tame.  See our Planting and care page for ideas on how to control your Bamboo.
