Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Spectabilis’
Common name: Spectabilis
Spectabilis is a some what rare type of Crookstem. Its yellow culms have green striping in its sulcus. Young spring culms grown in sunny locations become mahogany/purple. There’s also some variegation in leaves, small white stripes. Occasionally, like all Crookstems, Spectabilis showing some red highlighting from sun and some zigzagging to the culms. It makes an excellent hedge or potted plant. It is very hardy, down to -15° f. and can take windy locations as well.
