Phyllostachys dulcis
Common name: Sweet shoot bamboo.
The Dulcis, or Sweet shoot bamboo has large,
thick culms for its short size. You would typically
find this size culm on a much taller bamboo. Its
shoots are prized for their tasty, early season production. Culms are green to blue with a white ring developing around them. The shoot in the picture is barely over 10′ tall and you can see how large it is. Occasionally there are yellow stripes running up the culms. Sweet shoot has large, dark green drooping leaves, giving it a very full look. It is a quick growing bamboo, making it a great choice for a screen, hedge or grove.
