Phyllostachys humilis
The Humilis is the shortest of all Phyllostachys. Young culms emerge dark
red to purple, turning green to orange/yellow with age, if given full sun.
It makes an excellent short, dense screen, hedge or grove. The foliage is very dense and lush, usually starting very low on the culms,just above the ground level, making it an excelent choice for a shorter growing hedge.

Minimum temperature: Hardy to 0° F.
In zone 5 expect 8′-12′ tall plants with winter damage. In zone 10 expect full size plants.
Light: Full sun.
Culm: Green.
Uses: Hedge, screen, grove or container.

The “#” size refers to the size container the plant is grown in. The smaller the “#”, the smaller the size container. Younger plants will be in the smaller “#” sizes. A #1 size is the smallest size we grow in and will have the youngest plants. These are generally 1-2 years old. A #5 container is the largest size that we ship UPS and will have the largest, most established plants. These are generally 3-5 years old. These are the traditional gallon size containers.
