Oliver Maple
Not usually found in cultivation, the Oliver Maple is a small growing tree from central China that resembles the Acer palmatum.  It grows to approximately 15′ to 25′ with an equal spread, perfect for someone wanting a  tree similar to the palmatum, but a little larger.  It’s leaves are 2″-4″, with similar characteristics to the Japanese  Maple.  The glossy green summer leaves turn to oranges and reds in the fall.  It is heat and drought tolerant, even able to grow in sandy soils. Difficult to propagate, even from fresh seed, making it somewhat rare in the trade.  An ideal tree for the Pacific Northwest.
