Red Maple

One of the most common trees on the east coast of the United States. A large pyramidal tree growing to 40′-60′.  Medium fast growth to 12′ in 5-7 years.  Leaves are 2″-4″, with 3-5 lobes.  Green leaves fade to yellows and reds in the fall.  An excellent specimen for lawn or street.  Tolerates most soils, but prefers slightly acidic, moist  conditions. Propagates easily from fresh green seed sown in May and June.

Habit: Large tree with open crown, to 100′-120′ in its native range, however much smaller under cultivation, perhaps to 50′-60′.
Leaves: Three to five lobed, 3″-4″ across, dark green above with silver gray below.
Flowers: Red.
