The Saanichton kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa 'Saanichton') and Tomuri kiwi (Actinidia chinensis 'Tomura') kiwi are nice companion plants that go together to produce large amounts of large, sweet, lime green fruit with red fuzz on the Saanichton. You need one of each to produce fruit on Saanichton. The Saanichton kiwi originated in Canada and is a good choice for cooler areas. It is a very attractive vine with large flowers. It produces fruit at an early age, usually at 1-2 years old. It will ripen in Sept.-Oct. Space at 10'-15' apart to give them some room to grow.
The Tomuri kiwi (Actinidia chinensis 'Tomura') is a fuzzy male kiwi. It does not produce fruit but is needed to pollinate fuzzy female kiwi. It is a nice ornamental vine. One male kiwi will pollinate four to eight female kiwi up to 30' away.
