Sasa Veitchii Bamboo
This Sasa is grown primarily for its incredible winter color. During the Fall, the edges of the dark green leaves slowly developed creamy, white edges. It is by far one of the most striking winter colors on any bamboo. Although it grows well in most conditions, especially in the Pacific North West, its natural habitat is the under story in the mountain region of southern Honshu, Japan, around the 1100′ elevation. It is best as a ground cover in a shady area or as a container plants. As with many of the dwarf bamboos, you can cut this one back, or mow it late in the spring, just prior to the bud opening on the culms, or when you start seeing some of the new culms just starting to emerge from the ground.
