Bluecrop Blueberry

Blueberries are well-shaped, upright and vigorous plants with dark green foliage. In addition to the berries, blueberries are beautiful ornamental, native shrubs with spring flowers and fall color. They can be included in the landscape as either a single planting, hedge/border or in areas such as native gardens and woodlands. They also make nice container plants for a patio or deck. Blueberry plants are very hardy and long-lived. They prefer organically rich, medium to wet, well-drained acidic soils in full sun to part shade.

The Bluecrop Blueberry is a mid season, Northern Highbush variety. It is very cold hardy, down to a USDA zone 4, -20f to -30f.  One of the best all around Blueberry to plant. It is very productive with high yields of large, sweet berries and is disease resistant. It ripens in mid season, around July. It is seldom bothered by late frosts. It is a bush, growing to 5’-6’. It has beautiful, crimson red fall color. Flowers are white to pink. It is self pollinating but does better with another mid season blue berry. Blue berries grow best in organic, well drained acid soil. They prefer full sun. Plant your blue berries 4’-8’ apart. The Blue Crop will produce berries when it is 2-3 years old and will need 700-1000 chill hours to produce fruit.

Pollination and Ripening

Bluecrop Blueberries are self-pollinating, but planting multiple bushes can enhance fruit production. Cross-pollination from other blueberry varieties can also increase yields. They typically ripen in mid to late summer, making them a mid-season cultivar. The plant generally starts bearing fruit 2-3 years after planting, reaching full production within 4-5 years.

USDA Zones/Minimum Temperature

Bluecrop Blueberries thrive in USDA hardiness zones 4-7, making them well-suited for a range of climates, including colder regions and are hardy to -20f to -30f.
