Liberty apple

The Liberty is a medium to large, bright red apple with crunchy, white flesh and a sweet and tart flavor. It is a “McIntosh” style of apple. It is best for fresh eating, baking and cider. The Liberty Apple is very resistant apple fire blight, scab, mildew and rust. Apples do best in full sun with well draining soil. It is a heavy producer that ripens late September through early October. It is hardy in USDA zones 5-8.  It requires another apple nearby for pollination.

Height: It is a semi-dwarf growing to 10’-12’, but can be kept smaller with some pruning.
Minimum temperature: Hardy to -20f to -30f.
USDA zone: 3-8.  Find your zone  here.
Light: Full sun.
Fruit: Medium to large bright red with white flesh.
Bearing age: 3-5 years.
Pollination requirements: It is self pollinating but does better with another apple nearby.
Ripens: Sept.-Oct.

Pollination and Ripening

Most apple varieties are not self-pollinating. Plant at least two different apple trees for cross-pollination, ensuring they bloom simultaneously. Alternatively, consider self-pollinating cultivars.
