Our Phyllostachys Nigra ‘Bory’ Black Bamboo has recently flowered and is no longer available.  We keep this page up for informational purposes.

Phyllostachys nigra ‘Bory’ is a black giant timber,  with spots of  mahogany/black on green culms, usually on two year old culms. This form of black grows much taller than Phyllostachys nigra, to 50’x3″.  It is hardy to 0°F.  Its foliage is narrow and dense. Like most giant timber, it prefers full sun.

Synonyms:  Boryana.
Height x Diameter:   Ht. 50’x3”.
Minimum temperature:  Hardy to 0°F.
USDA zone 7-10
Light:  Full sun.
Culm:  Yellow/green with spots of brown/purple when mature.
Uses:  Groves, hedge, screen, erosion control.
Distribution  China, India and Japan.
Spread  Running.

The last photo is an example of a #1 (1 gallon) Phyllostachys Nigra 'Bory', however, it is not the exact plant that you will receive. Your plant will be approximately 1-2 years old, 1'-2' tall, with 1-3 culms (canes).

It is cold-hardy and can withstand temperatures as low as 0°F (-18°C), making it suitable for many temperate climates. The 'Bory' does well in USDA Hardiness Zones 7 through 11, adapting well to a variety of climates with proper care.
