Phyllostachys Nigra 'Henonis' Black Bamboo
The giant timber Phyllostachys nigra ‘Henon’ is an excellent choice for a grove, or forest. It’s extremely drought tolerant, grows in full sun or shade and has very upright, erect culms. The Henon is perhaps the true species of ‘Nigra’. Its culms emerge light green and fade to a soft green. Even though it is classified as a black, it has no black in its culms. It is hardy down to around 0°F. In the Pacific Northwest it probably grows to about 50′.
