Actinidia Arguta Female
The Arguta is a fast growing vine that produces oblong clusters of medium sized Kiwis. It is a heavy producer of smooth skinned, green fruit that is similar to fuzzy Kiwi only much more sweet and easier to eat. Kiwi prefers good draining soil. Kiwi will yield more fruit when grown in full sun. The Arguta is hardy down to -25f. It requires a male kiwi, the Actinidia Arguta Male for pollination. A male Kiwi can pollinate 6-8 female Kiwi. It flowers in late spring and ripens in fall. Actual ripening will vary greatly depending on the local climate. Allowing the fruit to ripen on the vine will increase its sugar content by up to 25%. Yields can be up to 50 pounds per plant. Generally, Kiwi needs to be 2-3 years old before they set fruit. Our plants are usually 1-2 years old when we sell them. Kiwi plants shipped Fall through Spring may be dormant and with out leaves. Pick your kiwi when it is firm in late October to early November, before a killing frost and let them ripen at room temperature.
