Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey'
The Brown Turkey fig has tasty brownish-purple fruit with deep pinkish red flesh. It has two fruiting season. Once in late spring, the other late summer. Fruit is wonderful fresh, preserved or dried. It is heat tolerant, self pollinating, and does well in containers. It is a deciduous tree that is highly adaptable to various growing conditions. It can grow as either a multi trunk shrub to small tree growing to 10-20 feet. Figs need protection when temperatures drop below 10f. Planting in a sheltered location and mulching in the fall will help. Figs can be brought indoors and grown as a house plant.
