The Green Ischia Verte Fig, also known simply as Ischia, is a cultivar prized for its medium to large sized sweet and flavorful fruits. This deciduous fruit tree is renowned for its vibrant lime-green figs that are not only delicious but also visually appealing. The flesh is succulent, honey-sweet, and has a smooth texture. The figs are excellent for fresh consumption, drying, or use in culinary applications. The leaves are large, deeply lobed, and provide an attractive backdrop to the fruit.
The Ischia typically begins to bear fruit in its second or third year. Fruits ripen in mid to late summer, offering a bountiful harvest during this period. It is a self-pollinating variety, meaning it does not require a separate pollinator for fruit production.
It typically reaches a mature height of 10 to 15 feet, with a spread of about 8 to 12 feet. The size can be managed through pruning to suit the available space or container gardening.
This variety is well-suited for USDA hardiness zones 7 to 10, thriving in warmer climates with mild winters.
Height: 10’-15’, but can be kept much smaller with some pruning. 4’-6’ in a container.
Minimum temperature: Hardy to 0ºf to 5ºf.
USDA zone: 7-10.
Light: Full sun to part sun.
The last photo is an example of a #1 (1 gallon) Green Ischia Verte Fig, however, it is not the exact plant that you will receive. Your plant will be approximately 1-2 years old and 1'-3' tall. Figs can be single trunk to multi-trunked trees.
