Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Aureocaulis’ Golden Crookstem Bamboo
Common name: Golden Crookstem
The Golden Crookstem is hardy down to -10°, making it probably the hardiest of all the yellows. Its completely yellow culms are sometimes streaked with green at the base. Like some of the other crookstems, this one turns red to mahogany when the culms are exposed to sunny locations. Also, like the other Crookstems, it too gets the occasionally zigzagging pattern in its culms. The Golden Crookstem makes an excellent hedge, screen, wind break or container plant. We have two here at the nursery in 100 gallon size Asian pots on our outside deck that are beautiful. They are both almost 20′ tall and sway with just the slightest of wind. Imagine looking up at them from your hammock or hot tub relaxing after a hard day in the garden!!
