Phyllostachys Aureosulcata 'Spectabilis'  Bamboo

 

Spectabilis is a some what rare type of  Crookstem. Its yellow culms have green striping in its sulcus.  Young spring culms grown in sunny locations become mahogany/purple. There is also some white variegation in its leaves and  some zigzagging to the culms.  It makes an excellent hedge or potted plant.  It is very hardy, down to -15° f. and can take windy locations as well.

Height x Diameter:  30′ x 1.75″.
Minimum temperature: Hardy to -15°f.
USDA zone 5-10.
Light:  Full sun for best culm color.
Culm:  Green-yellow, with green striping in internodes.  Mahogany red new culms.
Uses:  Hedge, screen, wind break, specimen, grove, erosion control. container.
Distribution:  China.
Spread:  Running.

 

The last photo is an example of a #1 (1 gallon) Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Spectabilis’, however, it is not the exact plant that you will receive. Your plant will be approximately 1-2 years old,  3'-4' tall, with 1-3 culms (canes).

USDA Zones/Minimum Temperature

The 'Spectabilis' is quite hardy and can tolerate temperatures as low as -10°F (-23°C), making it suitable for colder climates. It’s a resilient bamboo that can thrive even in harsher winter conditions. It does well in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 through 10, which means it can grow in regions that experience cold winters as well as more temperate climates.
